There are many programs and scripts that can assist you on drawball. This page attempts to catalog all of the available tools and provides commentary and instructions for using those tools.

AutoHotKey

Most all of these tools use AutoHotkey or produce scripts for AutoHotKey, a program for creating and running mouse/keyboard macros. AutoHotKey scripts work by moving your mouse and clicking the button for you. It allows you to do things like be more efficient with your ink, pick colors that match colors on the ball, make perfect shapes or patterns, or even trace outlines or draw pictures.

Easy Drawball Color Picker

UPDATE: this tool is now broken after a slight change in the design on the drawball website. All versions of the color picker fail because the "ink remaining" text is partly obscured by the ball. The bitmap it is searching for will never be found. This tool needs to be updated - do not use until somebody fixes this.

This tool was created to make it easy to match any color on the ball. Its an AutoHotKey script created by BaconPork that detects the color under your mouse cursor and then clicks the right places on the color selector for you! Very useful tool.

Easy Drawball Color Picker Version 0.0

UPDATE: this tool is now broken after a slight change in the design on the drawball website. All versions of the color picker fail because the "ink remaining" text is partly obscured by the ball. The bitmap it is searching for will never be found. This tool needs to be updated - do not use until somebody fixes this.

Note: I think this exe may be a 64-bit only, however, you can still install AutoHotKey to run the script version of it.

The included exe is for 32-bit systems, but still runs OK on 64-bit systems

Detailed instructions are included in HELP.txt

Changes in 0.1:

  1. Automated moving the mouse out of the way to get an accurate color sample. This results in one less step for the user to follow.
  2. when running as an AHK script (not true for exe), ink.png no longer needs to go into the root of the C drive, just keep ink.png in the same folder as the autohotkey script.
  3. Increased the area that it searches for the color picker. This will help people who have lower resolution monitors.
  4. Changed the keys to something that allows you to keep the program loaded without triggering it all the time on accident.
  5. Wrote additional documentation and troubleshooting tips .

New Keys:

CTRL+I = sample and clone the color under your mouse cursor.
CTRL+Q = exit the macro

RageBall

Rageball skipping the already black spots

Rageball was one of the first macro programs for drawball. Initially an important tool, it is now mostly obsolete.

Download RageBall here: http://www.mediafire.com/?g54utzzgmz0

Local Mirror of rageball.exe: http://drawball.smaert.com/files/rageball.exe

Rageball is a halftone pattern maker that uses the same method that newspapers use to cover large areas while saving ink.

Rageball has a few hotkeys:

CTRL + w skips all the already-White spots
CTRL + s skips all the already-Black spots
CTRL + e to stop current drawing (will end on his last line)
CTRL + q to quit rageball

OwnBall

OwnBall 7

The French have won the macro war with the release of their "OwnBall" tool. This tool is designed for use with larger dots, which are more ink efficient. It also has an ink-thifty color detection mode, so it won't bother repainting areas that are already the color you are painting with. (similar to the rageball color detection, but works for all colors - not just black & white)

Image Printer

UPDATE : Coded for older drawball. Not working, but still here for coders. The Drawball Image Printer is a python script by tripwire aka thehaircrow that will read in an image and create an AutoHotKey script that will draw that picture. Unfortunately, I've never gotten this program to work. It's quite picky about the version numbers of your python interpreter and one of the libraries... However, I've seen pictures drawn with this program, so i know that SOME people have been able to get it working.

You can download the Drawball Image Printer here: https://bitbucket.org/prb/drawball-image-printer

Note: there is no .exe here. This is a python script, you will need a python interpreter installed in order to be able to run this.

SVG Tracer

The SVG Drawer can be used to draw outlines of shapes.

Drawball Keyboard

by Dread_Lord / Blackoutx86

The Drawball Keyboard is an AutoHotKey script that allows you to draw letters on drawball by typing them on you keyboard. This is a great tool if you want to turn drawball into chatball. Makes communication with others on the ball go much faster and is easier to read.

  1. Load the script
  2. Zoom in to where you want to type
  3. Select a smaller sized brush, like the last brush in the first row.
  4. position your mouse where you want to type on the ball
  5. Using you keyboard, type the message, but type slowly. Let each letter finish before typing the next. Type carefully, because there is no backspace and fixing mistakes is a real pain.
